Kevin and Joe

In the chair today we have friends Kevin and Joe. The barbershop is described by Kevin as the first place he found authority in his voice and the impact this has had on his communication style until today. Joe discusses his journey into developing his current style and how this feeds into the false perceived notion of a ‘safe black male’ identity. They discover their joint ambitions to create a barbershop as a safe space for celebrating diversity, building connections, and a forum for open discussion in central London. Join them as they discuss the significance of the barbershop and how this space can be demonstrative of the intricacies surrounding black masculinity. Sarah and Renee

In the chair today we have sisters Sarah and Renee. Sarah Sango created the Lush Afro Hair Care products after highlighting a need for more products to serve that community within the range. She discusses how Renee has supported and influenced her journey into becoming an internationally renowned Afro Hair specialist and stylist. Renee was encouraged to start her natural hair journey through a big style change spurred on by Sarah’s influence. Renee's shea souffle was inspired by Renee's homemade recipe using Ghanian Shea Butter. They discuss how they continue to value the quality time they set aside for haircare between them as well as the impact this has had on their family’s, their careers, and their own natural hair care journeys. Garcie and Sharmera

In the chair today we have cousins Garcie and Sharmera.

Their relationship grew especially closer and stronger when they started working on each other's hair. 

They discuss how having hair done is more than just that, the overall experience involves being educated and having heart-to-heart conversations about the journey of afro hair.

 They both were raised in a family where the woman would often relax hair, they both never really saw the true quality of their natural hair vs. chemical processing or straightening. 

Join them as they discuss their journeys towards embracing natural hair and the inspirations which lead to a career in hairdressing.

Gloria and Abi

In the chair today we have Gloria and Abi, who met by sliding into each other's DM’s online. Gloria was particularly interested in having braids from a specialist even though she had a relationship with a stylist for coming up to three years and reached out to Abi. Abi is an Afro Hair stylist in her nineteenth year, who has forged a successful career whilst balancing life as a single mum to her son. Both with west African heritage, listen as they discuss the intricacies of caring for Afro textured hair and the value of hair appointments as a demonstration of self-love in their busy lives.
